A vibrant, diverse community is the tradition of the Hilltop.

The Hilltop community since its inception has been a model for home development. The large front porches on tree lined streets has been rediscovered by modern developers as the preferred neighborhood design.

Throughout the Hilltop, neighborhood block parties and local parades are bringing neighbors together. The close proximity of local shopping, The Red White and Blue Hilltop USA flags can be found flying throughout the communityeasy access to bus lines and the short distance from downtown Columbus has contributed to the Hilltops success. Home values are rising and community infrastructure improving and expanding.

During the Second World War letters were received from overseas addressed to 'Hilltop, USA', without reference to either Columbus or Ohio. Their prompt delivery verified that the Hilltop was known beyond the boundaries of Franklin County Ohio.

The Greater Hilltop Community Development Corporation supports development with facilities and activities that bring communities together. The GHCDC staff and board of Trustees, along with city employees, planted evergreen trees and cleared a hiking path making Dry Run Creek at Holton Park more accessible to the public. Future projects include the expansion of the Sullivant Trace walking and bike trail that would link Holton park to the State Lands. And the creation of a garden park with performance space east of the CDC building on west Broad.

Beyond planting trees and cleaning creek beds the GHCDC works to garner funding and volunteer support for community enhancements such as: playground equipment, street side flower plantings, historic building preservation, home tours and an annual program known as the Women of Character Award.

The October Hilltop parade sponsored by the Hilltop Business Association serves as the announcement of the Women of Character nominees. Award winners are selected by the GHCDC from community wide submissions. A Fall luncheon honors the women for their concern and interest in the Hilltop community. For more information, or to nominate a candidate contact the GHCDC at 614-276-0060.
